As I’m sure many of you will have seen, yet again, local democracy has been brought to the attention of the general population by the behaviour of one Councillor at a District Council meeting in Essex (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-59174940).
This is by no means an isolated incident. It can affect Parish, Town, District, and County Councils. However, unless you’re connected with the sector, you may not realise that there are no sanctions for this sort of behaviour.
It is not a laughing matter and It must stop.
Not only is it bad for democracy, it is extremely bad for the health of everyone concerned, particularly at Parish level where there may just be one employee – the Clerk.
